Where Healing Happens

Welcome to Rosen Akeson Therapy.

I’m Dana Akeson, LCSW, a person-centered, goal-oriented therapist who focuses on a variety of clinical concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, pregnancy/parenthood, LGBTQ+ issues, and ADHD. Healing is an intensely personal experience and supporting you through the process and transformation is my expertise and passion.

My Approach

Person-Centered, Goal-Oriented Therapy

No matter what you're going through, I am here to listen without judgment and support you every step of the way. The therapy approach is collaborative, and combines evidence-based techniques with a down-to-earth style, tailored to your specific needs. I strive to create a warm and relaxed environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself. Casual and approachable therapy sessions provide you with a safe space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and concerns.

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution, which is why I believe in a collaborative approach. We'll work together to develop a customized plan that aligns with your goals and values. Whether you're seeking help for anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or personal growth, our sessions will empower you with practical tools and insights for lasting positive change.

Your Experience

My vision is based on making changes that are positive, possible, and sustainable.

I offer support with unconditional positive regard.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

In order for therapy to work, it is important to choose the right therapist for you. I am a caring and supportive Clinical Social Worker who aims to provide relief to others and to help individuals achieve more comfortable and authentic lives. It is most important to me that my patients feel safe, valued, and respected in the therapeutic process and relationship, and maybe laugh a little too. I work collaboratively with my patients in order to better understand their needs and what has brought them to this moment in time. Together, we will determine the best approach toward me.

Being a person in this world can be difficult. Utilizing my clinical expertise, I believe I can help my patients cope with life transitions, create healthy boundaries, and improve communication skills. I have worked and trained in a variety of settings in the New York City and Long Island communities, providing mental health services to children/adolescents, young adults, adults, couples and families. I have worked with people of various racial, religious backgrounds and socioeconomic levels, as well as those who identify with the LGBTQ+ community. I have experience and success in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders, as well as personality disorders and ADHD.

“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.” - Carl Rogers

In addition to my clinical experience, I am also a New York State Certified School Psychologist who is able to provide psychoeducational testing. I have a keen understanding of special education services and IEPs, and am able to give support to children and families not only through psychotherapy, but through collaborating with school professionals and advocating for patients during CSE meetings.
